Why UST Projectors Are Different
A standard projector sits 10–15 feet from the screen and projects at a nearly horizontal angle. Every screen on the market is designed for this geometry.
A UST (ultra-short throw) projector sits 15–50 cm from the screen base and fires light steeply upward at an angle of 50–70 degrees from horizontal. This steep angle creates two problems with any flat screen surface:
- Diffusion blur: The screen's matte white coating scatters this steep-angle light in all directions, including sideways and back into itself — creating a blurry, veiled image
- Uneven brightness: The bottom of the image (closest to the projector) appears brighter than the top, because the light path length increases rapidly with height

UST Screen Sizing
