Best Projector Screen for Epson LS800 & EH-TW7820

Epson's LS800 and EH-TW7820 are both excellent 4K projectors — but they're fundamentally different types, and each needs a completely different screen. Getting this wrong is costly. Here's exactly what each requires.

Epson LS800 — Ultra-Short Throw Laser

The LS800 is a 4K UST laser projector with 4,000 lumens and a 0.16:1 throw ratio. It sits on a credenza, TV stand, or purpose-built shelf within 10–25 cm of the wall and projects upward. With that level of brightness — the highest in its class — it's particularly capable in rooms that can't be fully blacked out.

Because of the extreme projection angle, the LS800 requires a UST Fresnel ALR screen. Fresnel screens use micro-optical ridges to capture steeply angled light from below and redirect it toward viewers, simultaneously blocking overhead light from ceiling fixtures. On a standard screen, the LS800's image will look flat, dim, and washed out regardless of the projector settings.

Choose this if your room has good light control and cinema-quality contrast is the priority.

Gain 0.6, 170° viewing angle — the widest of any TrueThrow UST screen. If your space has viewers seated at sharp side angles (wide seating arrangement, open-plan room), this screen maintains consistent brightness further off-axis than any Fresnel-based screen.

Epson EH-TW7820 — Standard Throw 4K 3LCD

The EH-TW7820 is a 4K 3LCD standard throw projector rated at 2,800 lumens with a throw ratio of 1.22:1–2.47:1. It mounts on a ceiling or shelf 2–4 metres from the screen — this is a traditional projector that works with traditional screens.

TrueThrow Matte White Screen — Best for dark rooms

Gain 1.1, 160° viewing angle. The EH-TW7820's 3LCD engine produces excellent colour accuracy on a neutral matte white surface — you get the projector's full colour gamut without any screen-induced bias. For a dedicated cinema room or light-controlled space, this is the purest image.

TrueThrow Grey Crystal ALR Screen — Best for mixed lighting

Gain 1.0, 160° viewing angle. The angular ALR coating reflects the projector's straight-on light efficiently while absorbing side-angle ambient light. If you watch in a living room with windows or lights on, this screen produces visibly better contrast than matte white without any colour shift.

TrueThrow Black Crystal ALR Screen — Best for bright rooms

Gain 0.8, 160° viewing angle. The strongest ambient-light rejection in the fixed-frame range. The EH-TW7820's 2,800 lumens is sufficient at 0.8 gain on screens up to 130" — and you gain noticeably deeper blacks than any lighter-surfaced screen.

Size Recommendations

Epson LS800: 100"–110" is the sweet spot. The projector's 4,000 lumens handles up to 120" comfortably even with ambient light.

Epson EH-TW7820: Match the size to your throw distance. At 3 metres, a 110"–120" screen is typical. Use a throw distance calculator if you're between sizes — a screen that's too large for the room's lighting will look dim at the edges.
