Best Projector Screen for Optoma UHD55 & UHZ65

The Optoma UHD55 and UHZ65 are both single-chip 4K DLP projectors designed for standard throw distances — meaning they mount on a ceiling or shelf 2–4 metres from the screen. Unlike UST projectors, they're fully compatible with the complete range of fixed frame and motorized screens.

Optoma UHD55 — 4K DLP, 2,400 Lumens

The UHD55 is a compact 4K DLP projector delivering 2,400 lumens with a 1.22:1–1.97:1 throw ratio. At that brightness level, it performs well in a moderately lit room on a matte white screen, and excellently in a dark or light-controlled space. The single-chip DLP engine produces a sharp, punchy image with excellent motion handling — popular for both movies and sports.

Optoma UHZ65 — 4K Laser DLP, 3,000 Lumens

The UHZ65 (and UHZ65Z variant) upgrades to a laser light source — no lamp to replace, near-instant on/off, and consistent brightness over the projector's lifetime. At 3,000 lumens it has noticeably more headroom for ambient-light viewing than the UHD55. The same throw ratio range applies.

Gain 0.8, 160° viewing angle. The strongest ambient-light rejection in the fixed frame range. Best paired with the UHZ65 (3,000 lumens) rather than the UHD55 (2,400 lumens) for screens above 110", where the lower gain would otherwise reduce brightness slightly.

TrueThrow Lenticular CLR Long Throw Screen — Specialist pick

Gain 0.9, 160° viewing angle. The lenticular CLR (Ceiling Light Rejection) structure specifically targets overhead ceiling light — the most common source of contrast degradation in standard living rooms. If your room has recessed ceiling lights directly above the seating area, this screen addresses the problem more precisely than a standard ALR screen.
