The Problem ALR Screens Solve
A standard matte white projector screen reflects light in all directions equally. That's perfect in a dark room — every photon from your projector bounces back toward your audience. The problem starts when other light sources enter the equation.
Ceiling pot lights, table lamps, and natural light from windows all hit the screen surface and reflect back toward the audience too. That stray reflected light competes directly with your projector's image — raising the black floor, washing out colours, and destroying contrast. In a bright living room, even a 3,000-lumen projector can look dull on a standard white screen.
How ALR Technology Works
ALR screens use a multi-layer optical coating with an angular-reflective surface. Instead of scattering light equally in all directions, the surface is engineered to reflect light preferentially back along the same angle it arrived from.
Your projector sits in front of and above the screen — so your projector's light arrives at a specific set of angles. The ALR coating reflects that light efficiently back toward the audience. Ambient light from ceiling fixtures arrives from a different angle (straight down) and is absorbed or redirected away from the audience rather than reflected toward them.
The result: your projector's image is preserved, and ambient light is significantly suppressed — without requiring you to turn off the lights.
